All human beings have rights, depending on the country or place, we have and demand rights: to health, education, housing, social and human rights that serve to have a better coexistence within our society. However, what allows the existence of our rights, their own ancestral rights are not recognized, even though, paradoxically, thanks to the existence of that natural platform is that our rights exist.
Therefore, it is logical to think that we need to protect this platform, the one that allows us the existence of our societies and our rights. That is why the human right to water, its access and sanitation is so relevant, as a key point for the regulation and protection of our nature so that it is, effectively, a subject (or subjects) of right (s) with legal protection, simply because it is a way of giving back to those who today have no rights whatsoever and are frankly unbalanced and defenseless. Today, except for honorable exceptions, it is only seen as an unlimited supplier of raw materials, commercial and economic usufruct. Something totally contrary if what is pursued or desired is the prevalence and natural balance for all lives. Including ours within an increasingly consensual range that intergenerational justice is also, in essence, a right.
Just as it has been mentioned that water must be considered as a right, in terms of its access, sanitation and recreation; Taking into account its priority for human consumption and food, it is also relevant to understand and consider that there are multiple ecosystems that participate with ours in multiple dimensions, forcing us to break with the paradigm that humanity or the human being is superior to others species; or that our social ecosystem is above other ecosystems, without understanding that, in reality, we are part of a single and large ecosystem that inhabits multiple ecosystems or dimensions. For this reason, the importance that we can give is so important that our ecosystem does not destroy other ecosystems and, on the contrary, they can value and protect them, considering conservation as a real investment mechanism; granting it a legal framework so that they exist, prevail, avoiding their degradation or deterioration. In this context, it is necessary today, urgently, to be able to offer nature its own rights of existence and prevalence over time, in a hostile scenario where not only the scope related to human societies must be considered, but also Current planetary and climatic aspects that must be analyzed and incorporated in the transcendental future decisions that imply great challenges for all. It's not even today or tomorrow anymore; it's yesterday
Nature has many duties to all lives or existence and few rights when it is intervened or disrespected. Aboriginal peoples teach us, through a unique worldview and communion with nature, our pachamama, that respect from which we have moved away or forgotten with a dangerous arrogance, permanently demanding rights for our societies, for human beings, but, forgetting about our own duties towards what allows us to exist or live, believing and thinking that only our rights are those that prevail or matter.
And our duties; our contribution. Our reflection; our legacy?
Facing a new constitution, there must be that base as an object. That natural or planetary platform in which nature by logic should not be destroyed, but respected both by the ecosystem services that it offers us through its natural duties, as well as through its natural right to be able to remain and coexist in harmony, giving us the certain possibility to continue living and exercising our own duties and rights on a planet, despite everything, resilient and beautiful.
Water, beginning and end, ends up being the key factor in the regulation, planning and adaptation of our rights in a new Political Constitution of the Republic of Chile that helps to revalue our country and its invaluable ecosystem wealth. An ecologically based constitution that allows us to look at our country in a more sustainable way over time. In an era in which we are running out of time.
